Maple Pictures Acquires “DEATH OF A PRESIDENT” At Toronto Film Fest

TORONTO, CANADA, September 12, 2006 DEATH OF A PRESIDENT, which screened to overflow audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival, has been picked up for Canadian distribution, it was announced today by Maple Pictures’ Co-Presidents Brad Pelman and Laurie May.

“We are excited to bring this film to Canadian audiences,” said John Bain, SVP, Distribution for Maple Pictures. “DEATH OF A PRESIDENT is a timely analysis of the current atmosphere in the U.S. told in an innovative and entertaining way. It’s a perfect fit with Maple Pictures.”

DEATH OF A PRESIDENT is the directorial effort of Gabriel Range, who co-wrote the script with Simon Finch. It is a groundbreaking thriller that skillfully recreates the fictitious assassination of George W. Bush in the near future. Presented in a documentary style, the film has been the subject of much debate leading up to its presentation at TIFF. DEATH OF A PRESIDENT will receive its Canadian theatrical release day-and-date with the US release.

“The filmmakers have made a conscious effort to find the right distributors in each territory who would best communicate their vision. Maple Pictures is the best distributor in Canada to handle such a provocative and compelling title,” says Brad Pelman. Co-President Laurie May adds,

“We’ve never been a company to shy away from potentially controversial films. All of us at Maple Pictures are already enthusiastically working on the film’s release.”
