VANCOUVER (CP) _ A new distribution deal means American fans of "Degrassi: The Next Generation" are going to be seeing a lot more of the popular teen show. Beginning next fall, "Degrassi" will air Monday to Friday in top U.S. markets including New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.
A spokeswoman for Thunderbird Films and its U.S. distribution partners, Program Partners, says the show will enjoy a key after-school slot _ most likely between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. _ on conventional U.S. channels.
U.S. fans currently catch Degrassi on the N, a cable network only available in certain markets.
The half-hour series has drawn praise south of the border for its frank portrayal of teen life, winning a Teen Choice Award and a Television Critics Association Award last year.
The CTV show has been licensed in more than 150 countries, including France, Switzerland, and Australia.
"’Degrassi’ in the major U.S. markets; it’s another great Canadian success story," said CTV’s programming president, Susanne Boyce.
"We’re extremely proud of the series and the creative team that continues to push new boundaries."
