Casgrain named chairman of CBC board

OTTAWA (CP) _ Timothy Casgrain has been appointed chairman of the CBC.

Heritage Minister Bev Oda made the announcement Friday, saying Casgrain will "provide strong leadership."

He replaces Guy Fournier, who resigned from the CBC board of directors in September.

Corporation president and CEO Robert Rabinovitch has been serving as acting chairman in the interim.

Casgrain is chairman of Skyservice Investments, a Canadian aviation company.

He was also executive vice-president of Brascan Financial Corp., as well as president and chief executive of NBS Technologies.

The Montreal native’s career began as a teacher in Africa.
