Gold Circle Films and Maple Pictures sign multi-picture agreement
Monday November 05th 2007Gold Circle Films and Maple Pictures have signed a multi-picture, multi-year output deal beginning with the Renee Zellwegger and Harry Connick Jr film "Chilled in Miami" and "The New Daughter," starring Kevin Costner and Ivana Baquero ("Pan’s Labyrinth"), it was jointly announced by Maple Pictures Co-Presidents Laurie May and Brad Pelman and Gold Circle Films partners Paul Brooks and Scott Niemeyer.
As part of the company’s continued evolution into a Canadian distribution powerhouse, the agreement gives Maple Pictures a strong slate of forthcoming features from Gold Circle Films, the financing and production company whose film "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" became the highest grossing romantic comedy of all time and the fifth highest grossing film of 2002.
"We are thrilled to be in business with Paul and Scott," said Maple Co-President Laurie May. "Gold Circle’s films have established resonance in the marketplace for their consistent box office success, broad audience appeal and unique creative signature. Their upcoming releases will be a perfect complement to our Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions film slates, as well as the numerous motion pictures we acquire at film festivals and markets worldwide."
"Gold Circle is equally excited about this new partnership. Maple Pictures has achieved tremendous distribution clout in the two years since they were founded, and our films could not be in better hands," noted Niemeyer.
Maple Pictures’ recent releases include the Lionsgate box office hits "3:10 to Yuma," starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, which has grossed over $50 million at the North American box office to date and is expected to be an Academy Award contender. Maple topped the Canadian box office this past week with "Saw IV," the latest installment in the most popular horror franchise in history from Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures.
Upcoming Maple films include "Starting Out in the Evening," starring Frank Langella and recent Toronto Film Festival acquisition "Bill," starring Aaron Eckhart and Jessica Alba.
"These are the kinds of partnerships we envisioned when we formed Maple," added Pelman. "We are well positioned to continue growing toward our goal of being Canada’s pre-eminent distribution company."
