Deluxe expands with new Hollywood lab

Deluxe Entertainment Services Group is building a new laboratory in Hollywood that will expand its release printing operations by 30%.

Deluxe Laboratories Hollywood will reside in a three-story, 35,000-square-foot building on the site where Deluxe began its film laboratory operations in 1919, on the original Fox lot. The building will connect Deluxe’s existing laboratory and theater buildings. In addition to processing and printing operations, two film theaters will be constructed in the building.

“Release time lines have become shorter and we believe this allows us to increase production efficiencies while continuing to improve our product quality,” Deluxe president and CEO Cyril Drabinsky said.

“Even with Deluxe’s growth in the digital postproduction and exhibition sectors, we believe that film will continue to be an important medium for some time,” he added.

Deluxe — a wholly-owned subsidiary of MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings — operates laboratory, postproduction facilities and release printing operations in Hollywood, Toronto, London, Rome, Barcelona and Madrid. A recent acquisition in Vancouver and a new facility set to open in the spring in New York round out the company’s locations.
