PS first to supply five RED cameras for feature film
Thursday June 05th 2008PS Production Services Ltd. just completed its national RED Tour, making them the first to showcase and demonstrate use of the revolutionary RED camera to IATSE professionals across the country.
“As soon as word spread that we had received our first 10 of 40 cameras ordered, a flurry of demand ensued and the units were quickly sent out on multiple productions,” said Penny Watier, GM, PS Capture. “The biggest RED order was for Hybrid, a feature film in Regina for which PS supplied 5 cameras, all to be used simultaneously, marking this shoot as North America’s first exclusively RED feature.”
Hybrid DOP, John Leonetti (The Scorpion King) was eager to shoot with RED on the project after comparison tests with various film stocks.
“I think the Red is fantastic, I want to say that it’s my favorite camera,” Leonetti said. ”What I’m amazed about is how seamlessly I can treat it like a film camera, and because it has a contrast ratio very close to film, it’s kind of like going back to the film days but in a digital world.”
Hybrid recently wrapped in Regina and if the continued buzz of the film is any indication, the RED has landed.
