  • Cookie Jar Entertainment, DIC agree to merge

    Canadian animation producer Cookie Jar Entertainment unveiled an agreement to acquire Burbank-based DIC Entertainment Holdings as part of a merger worth $87.6 million. Toronto-based Cookie Jar said that DIC, a global brand management company, will become a subsidiary of the privately owned Canadian producer once the deal closes in the fall. As part of the agreement, Cookie Jar will pay about $31.5 million for stock in DIC that is traded on London’s AIM market, take on $42 million in forecast debt and pay $14.1 million in transaction fees and expenses.

    Theaters that exhibited the November 2007 release “Beowulf” in 3-D saw a 65% sales increase in total boxoffice over comparable theaters that exhibited it in 2-D, according to a new study from the Nielsen Co.’s Nielsen PreView. “Our new research approach contrasted theaters in such a way to demonstrate consumers, when given a choice, will choose 3-D,” said Ann Marie Dumais, senior vp at Nielsen PreView.

    Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger: How’s that for a Bollywood matchup? The “Rocky” legend has signed on to star in the upcoming Bollywood film “Incredible Love”, which will be the first Indian production to be shot at Hollywood’s Universal Studios. Schwarzenegger will also have a featured role. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala said that luring both Stallone and Schwarzenegger reflected the growing importance of the Indian film market. With a pricetag of $21 million, the movie will have the largest budget of any Bollywood project.
