Gemini Awards return to Toronto in 2008

TORONTO, Aug. 14 /CNW/ – The 23rd Annual Gemini Awards, recognizing the year’s best in Canadian English-language television, return to Toronto, Ontario this fall. The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (ACCT), along with broadcast partner Canwest Broadcasting, announced today that The 2008 Gemini Awards Broadcast Gala will air on Canada’s ultimate television destination for everything entertainment, E! Network and Showcase on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 9 p.m. ET.

The nominations for the prestigious awards will be announced on August 26. Three industry awards evenings will take place on October 20, 21, and 22 at the Liberty Grand, culminating in The 2008 Gemini Awards Broadcast
Gala, which will beam across Canada from the John Bassett Theatre in Toronto.

“Toronto is a vibrant city and a key production centre, home to many of Canada’s finest television programs,” said Sara Morton, CEO, ACCT. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with E! Entertainment and Showcase to bring the Gemini Awards back to Toronto this year.”

“Broadcasting this event across two of our television networks brings the Gemini Awards to a wide and diverse audience across Canada,” added Barbara Williams, Executive Vice President of Content, Canwest Broadcasting. “We are extremely proud to shine the spotlight on our Canadian talent.”
