Stars to introduce films for AFI series

Twelve stars, including Sean Connery and Denzel Washington, will be on hand at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywod on Oct. 1 to introduce a dozen movies in which they appeared.

The program, dubbed “Target presents AFI Night at the Movies,” is a follow-up to the program of the same name that the AFI created last year to mark its 40th anniversary.

Tickets, priced at $25 each, will go on sale Sept. 17 at AFI.com and at the ArcLight boxoffice.

This year’s lineup of stars and films includes Connery, presenting “The Man Who Would Be King”; Annette Bening, “American Beauty”; Jim Carrey, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”; Cameron Diaz, “There’s Something About Mary”; Jodie Foster, “The Silence of the Lambs”; Dustin Hoffman, “Tootsie”; Shirley MacLaine, “The Apartment”; Steve Martin, “The Jerk”; Rita Moreno, “West Side Story”; Mike Myers, “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery”; Keanu Reeves, “The Matrix”; and Washington, “Glory.”

The program, AFI president and CEO Bob Gazzale said, “is grand in scale, but simple in message: to bring movie makers and move lovers together in the glow of this great American art form. It is a fireworks show of American film, and AFI’s honor to celebrate the artists and their contributions to the rich cultural legacy of our nation.”
