Agencies, actors make major moves
Monday October 27th 2008It was a busy weekend for thesp and agent shuffles among top tenpercenteries.
Endeavor reeled in Emile Hirsch, who had been agentless since abruptly leaving UTA the weekend that “Speed Racer” bowed and proved to be an expensive flop.
The actor, who came off the Sean Penn-directed “Into the Wild” before making that move toward the mainstream, has returned to indies and will next be seen starring alongside Penn in the Gus Van Sant-directed “Milk.” He’s also part of the ensemble of Ang Lee’s ’60s tale “Taking Woodstock.” Hirsch continues with manager Sam Maydew.
CAA has signed Tom Selleck and will ramp up his volume of work in films, TV and theater. The “Magnum P.I.” guy lately has been playing Jesse Stone in telepic adaptations of the Robert B. Parker mystery novels, and he recently completed a multiepisode run on “Las Vegas.” Selleck had been agented by Bettye McCartt, who’ll continue as his manager.
In a move that brings UTA its second recent injection of young acting talent from WMA, UTA hired Louise Ward to be an agent in its talent department. She recently left WMA and is bringing a client list that includes Channing Tatum, who stars in Paramount’s summer pic “G.I. Joe” and is shooting the Lasse Hallstrom-directed “Dear John”; Julian McMahon (“Nip/Tuck”); Cobie Smulders (“How I Met Your Mother”); and Alex Frost (“Stop-Loss”).
Ward follows Theresa Peters, who left WMA to become a UTA partner (Daily Variety, Oct. 13). She brought with her such clients as James McAvoy, Kirsten Dunst and Mandy Moore. The percentery also recently added Management 360’s Doug Johnson to its motion picture lit department.
