  • M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Devil’ gets its due
    Wednesday October 29th 2008

    M. Night Shyamalan is making a deal with the “Devil.” The helmer’s three-film financing/production partnership with Media Rights Capital, the Night Chronicles, is launching with the supernatural thriller “Devil.” John and Andrew Dowdle will direct and executive produce a script by Brian Nelson (“30 Days of Night”) based on an original Shyamalan story. The project will be the first feature Shyamalan has written or produced without directing.

  • Linklater, Haynes join SXSW confab

    Helmers Richard Linklater and Todd Haynes will participate in the 2009 South by Southwest confab. Haynes and Linklater will discuss indie filmmaking together via their recent work, “I’m Not There” and “Me and Orson Welles,” respectively. Other speakers include IMDb.com founder Col Needham, who will outline how his simple spreadsheet became the industry go-to destination for film info. German producer Jan Harlan will discuss working with his brother-in-law, Stanley Kubrick, on such films as “Barry Lyndon,” “The Shining” and “Eyes Wide Shut.”

    In a first for Canadian primetime, the homegrown series “So You Think You Can Dance Canada” has emerged as the No. 1 new fall TV show. CTV’s Canadian version of the Fox series has beaten out all U.S. comers since its Sept. 11 bow.
