Ted Rogers temporarily leaves post

November 3, 2008

Ted Rogers has temporarily left the top job at Rogers Communications, one of Canada’s leading media companies, due to health issues. The company announced late Friday that the 75-year-old Rogers CEO had been admitted into a hospital for treatment of an existing cardiac condition. Rogers has faced heart problems for 20 years and he underwent quadruple bypass heart surgery in 1992. No further details were provided on his current medical condition.

In a statement, the company said, “The length of Mr. Rogers’ leave will be determined by his overall health and medical progress.”

Alan Horn, chairman of the board of Rogers, was named acting CEO. Rogers’ company owns the country’s leading cable operator, Canada’s biggest wireless carrier, the five City-tv stations, other TV and radio outlets, and the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team.
