  • Hollywood actors will vote on strike

    The cloud of labor unrest hanging over Hollywood and the upcoming awards season has grown considerably darker. Although no date has been set, the leaders of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) have begun preparations for a strike-authorization vote after two days of meetings with the studios failed to break the 5-month-old deadlock on a new TV/theatrical contract. The talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers (AMPTP), brokered by federal mediator Juan Carlos Gonzalez, ended shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday.

  • Mediator unable to bring SAG, AMPTP together

    SAG is inching closer to a strike. After two days worth of round-the-clock meetings — about 27 hours — federal mediator Juan Carlos Gonzalez was unable to bring SAG and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers together to hash out a new TV/theatrical contract. Talks broke off shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday morning.
