Alliance earns $110 mil at Canadian b.o.
Tuesday January 13th 2009TORONTO — Alliance Films, Canada’s largest indie movie distributor, said Monday that it notched CAN$131.6 million ($110.3 million) in domestic boxoffice revenue in 2008 on the strength of releases including “Sex and the City,” “Burn After Reading” and “Righteous Kill.”
Montreal-based Alliance Films, which is privately owned by Goldman Sachs & Co. and Societe generale de financement du Quebec, provided no comparative 2007 Canadian boxoffice figures. But it indicated a 14% Canadian market share last year compared with 16% in 2007. Alliance has output deals for product from New Line, Focus, Relativity Media and the Weinstein Co.
Alliance Films also said that its British division, Momentum Pictures, racked up a record boxoffice of 32.9 million pounds ($48.9 million) last year.
