Art Directors Guild adds 500

The Art Directors Guild has added about 500 members by completing its restructuring following its merger with smaller unions representing illustrators and set designers.

The ADG, which operates as Local 800 of the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, made the announcement Thursday. The union announced a 20-member board and said Scott Roth would continue as exec director.

Last year’s merger was designed to make the Art Directors Guild more visible by merging Locals 790 and 847 into Local 800, which now has about 2,000 members.

Move comes six years after the Art Directors Guild, which was founded in 1937 and repped about 900 production designers, art directors and assistant art directors, combined with Local 816 Scenic, Title & Graphic Artists, which repped scenic artists, graphic artists, courtroom artists, computer artists and graphic designers.
