Directors’ Fortnight appoints general director

PARIS — Just days before the 2009 Directors’ Fortnight kicks off, the Festival de Cannes sidebar has announced that Frederic Boyer will take over as general director for its 2010 edition, French directors union the SRF said Wednesday.

Boyer will succeed Olivier Pere, who will end his six-year run with the Fortnight to take on a new position at the Locarno Film Festival.

Boyer, a member of the Fortnight’s selection committee since 2004, will take on his new position in November to prepare for the 2010 edition. Boyer is the founder of the Videosphere, a DVD and VHS shop in Paris.
