Mazza joins Cookie Jar

Tom Mazza has joined Cookie Jar Entertainment as exec VP and head of worldwide TV.

Canadian-based Cookie Jar, which specializes in children’s animation and bought DIC Entertainment in June, is making a push to create live-action programming for a primetime home. As networks are looking for find new global production partners, Mazza says Cookie Jar can fill that void.

“This is an opportunity to be entrepreneurial because they’re growing and moving in a new direction,” Mazza told Daily Variety. “We’ll be forging a new direction in terms of all family programming into the primetime space.”

Mazza said Cookie Jar’s non-animated programming could fill either an 8 or 9 o’clock timeslot.

“I’ve got a mandate to increase P&L and library exploitation but to expand the program slate,” he added.

Mazza comes to Cookie Jar following a stint at branded entertainment shingle Madison Road Entertainment. Previously, he was an exec at Columbia TriStar and Paramount, where he worked on such series as “Dawson’s Creek,” “Cheers” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

Cookie Jar’s library includes “Strawberry Shortcake,” Inspector Gadget” and “Calilou.”
