David Rehr exits as NAB topper
Wednesday May 13th 2009David Rehr is stepping down after four years as president of the National Assn. of Broadcasters.
Janet McGregor, NAB chief operating and financial officer, will take over day-to-day running of the lobbying org until a successor for Rehr is named.
“I have enjoyed leading America’s broadcasters through this time of change and challenge,” Rehr said in a statement.
Rehr, a former lobbyist for the beer biz, was hired in 2005 on the strength of his background as a well-connected Republican and a good fund-raiser, but he has conceded he made some missteps in connecting with Capitol Hill, a criticism that was echoed by some lobbyists and board members.
Recent NAB defeats include its failed attempt to block the XM-Sirius merger.
Rehr also was said to have lost an opportunity to take ownership of the industry digital TV transition call center operation after a meeting with Obama transition team staffers, who pushed for more industry participation. The cable industry volunteered for that role.
A search committee has been formed to find a candidate.
