Twilight cast returns to Vancouver this August to begin filming Eclipse

Lock up your daughters.

Or at least mark your calendar, especially if you’re a Twilight buff, because the blood suckers and teen scream queens are heading back to the Great White North — or at least the dark delicious rainforest that we like to call British Columbia — as the cast of the blockbuster vampire movies returns to Vancouver Aug. 17 to begin shooting Eclipse, the third instalment in the series based on Stephanie Meyer’s books.

This will be second trip this year to our town for young actors Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner and the rest of the on-screen heartthrobs, who were in town earlier this spring filming New Moon, the second film in the series.

And you know what that means: celebrity spotting at trendy Yaletown hangouts like Glowbal and, of course, a multitude of celebrity sightings and plenty of buzz and perhaps more than a few squeals as fans desperately seek a glimpse of their idols out and about in the city.

The Twilight gang will head to Vancouver Film Studios for the two-month shoot, with Eclipse filming scheduled to wrap up on Oct. 31, and the movie reportedly set for release June 30, 2010.

And if you don’t think that the Halloween connection is deliberate then you should never pursue a career in marketing, because it’s perfect timing to kick off the publicity blitz for the Nov. 20 release of New Moon.

Meyer, a 35-year-old Connecticut mother of three sons, couldn’t have scripted it better herself, after having hit the jackpot when she created her brooding blood-sucking vampire, Edward Cullen, and the tender if slightly unsettling love story between him and his beloved mortal sweetheart Bella Swan.
