    Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are joining forces to co-host the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, the telecast’s producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman said Tuesday. Doubling down on comedy, the producers said, “Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past, and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event.”

    If “TGS” got ratings like this, Jack Donaghy would have killed it years ago. In its debut on German television Sunday night, Emmy-winning comedy “30 Rock” scored a 0.0 rating, meaning fewer than 5,000 viewers tuned in. Making Germans laugh is never easy, but the debut was below even the lowest forecasts of broadcaster ZDFNeo. The digital niche channel, which is run by pubweb ZDF, had made “30 Rock” the flagship in its new relaunch, promising more cutting-edge programming for a younger demographic.

  • Canada’s Bell TV is ‘Mad’ about AMC

    U.S. cable channel AMC on Monday continued its climb onto premium Canadian digital cable and satellite TV services, thanks to Don Draper and his five-martini lunches. Domestic satellite TV operator Bell TV said it will offer AMC in standard and high definition from Nov. 11, with Matthew Weiner’s popular postwar Americana drama “Mad Men” and Hollywood movies as the big draw. Christina Hendricks, who plays Joan Harris on the hit Lionsgate series, was in Toronto to promote the Bell TV launch.
