    Touting its focus on organizing new media work, the Writers Guild of America East more than tripled its roster of digital media signatories last year to more than 30 companies. The WGA East, in an announcement Monday, said it signed 22 companies in 2009. It also said that 30 writers have become guild members as a result of digital media work.

  • ‘Hurt Locker’ tops critics group nods

    Iraq-set drama “The Hurt Locker” set off fireworks as the National Society of Film Critics voted Sunday. The last major critics organization to check in with its 2009 kudos named the Summit release picture of the year and hailed the film’s Kathryn Bigelow as best director and Jeremy Renner as best actor.

    Mickey Mouse has officially adopted a whole bunch of superhero playmates. Disney closed out 2009 by completing its $4.3 billion acquisition of Marvel Entertainment on Dec. 31. Marvel shareholders did well in the deal, pocketing $30 in cash plus three-quarters of a Disney share for every Marvel share they owned,[…]
