    CSC members Dylan Macleod, Jeremy Benning and Ray Dumas have initiated a Canadian 3D hands-on workshop that is relevant and timely. The workshop is offered in 3 streams: for DPs, for ACs and for industry observers (Producers and Directors).

    Citytv is cutting shows, production staff and on-air talent including veteran CityNews at Six anchor Anne Mroczkowski. In a statement, Leslie Sole, chief executive of Citytv parent company Rogers Media Television, said the changes “are necessary to align our operations with the economic and regulatory realities of our industry.” According to Koreen Ott, director of marketing and public relations for Rogers Media Television, in Toronto, the noon news program, CityNews at 5 and weekend newscasts have all been cancelled.

    The Michael Jackson docu “This Is It” is a prime example of a film created mainly in the editing suite — a fact validated by the nod two of its cutters received last week from the Motion Picture Editors Guild for best edited feature documentary. Helmer Kenny Ortega and his team not only overcame major technical obstacles to put together a cohesive film; they also had to fight grief and fatigue.

  • Vancouver shifting into Olympics mode

    As athletes prepare to compete for gold at the Vancouver Winter Olympics next month, film and TV producers have begun to run a gauntlet of road closures and security restrictions in and around the host city. Los Angeles and local producers have been told by Mayor Gregor Robertson that the downtown core and areas with Olympic venues will be off-limits to location filming during the Feb. 12-28 Games and the Paralympic Games in March. Vancouver will continue to issue film permits for shooting in suburban locales that might stand in for the city. Local soundstages, post and visual effects facilities outside the downtown core will remain open.
