Comweb launches Toronto film, TV facility
Friday May 07th 2010TORONTO — Paul Bronfman’s Comweb Group has opened a $20 million film lighting and equipment rental facility in the middle of an expanding west Toronto production studio corridor.
The 338,000 square foot facility will house William F. White International, a movie, TV and theatrical production equipment supplier, and Bill White’s 3D Camera Company.
Comweb intends to rent out surplus space to other production service companies.
The new facility is near to the new Cinespace Studios complex in west Toronto, Deluxe Laboratories’ post-production house and soundstages operated by Dufferin Gate Productions in suburban Etobicoke, near to Pearson International Airport.
William F. White also has its headquarters next door to its new production services facility on Islington Avenue.
The new William F. White facility is seen as a vote of confidence in the Toronto film and TV production sector from Comweb chairman Paul Bronfman, who has endured a few business cycles since opening his first soundstage facility in Vancouver in 1988.
Despite the strengthening Canadian dollar, Bronfman said Ontario’s newly introduced 25% all-spend tax credit, combined with a rebound in local Hollywood film and TV production, spurred his investment in the new production services facility.
The expanding west Toronto studio corridor is also part of the Ontario government’s plan to subsidize foreign film, TV, post-production and interactive digital media content makers that do business locally, and to collect those businesses in new creative clusters.
