Shaw closes $2 billion deal for CanWest

Shaw Communications’ $2 billion deal to take over the TV assets of CanWest Global Communications closed on Wednesday.

The assets, including the Global TV network and a slew of cable channels that CanWest acquired when it bought Alliance Atlantis in 2007, will be housed within a new company, Shaw Media, making it one of Canada’s leading broadcasters.

Shaw Media will be run by Paul Robertson, a former exec with Shaw’s Corus Entertainment.

The exec team will also include Andrew Akman as VP of planning, Paul Burns as VP of digital media, Charlotte Bell as VP of regulatory and government affairs, Carol Darling as VP of engineering, Michael French as VP of finance and Dervla Kelly as senior director of communications.
