DreamWorks Honours Canadian Veterans with ‘War Horse’ Screening

Dreamworks Pictures is offering Canadian veterans nation-wide a special invitation to a pre-screening of the upcoming Stephen Spielberg film “War Horse.” In honour of Remembrance Day, the screening will be in seven major cities on November 16th.

The film, which debuts in Canada on December 25th, features plot themes of loyalty, hope and tenacity all while set in rural England and Europe during WWI. Based on the best-selling novel by Michael Morpurgo and the Tony Award winning play by Nick Stafford, “War Horse” is a great story of friendship and war. The movie adaptation is expected to do well as it is backed by Spielberg’s directing talents.

Screenings are available to veterans on Wednesday in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. To attend, veterans are being asked to contact their local Royal Canadian Legion branch for complete details or call 1-800-263-2853 ext 4163398 for more information.

“DreamWorks Pictures’ “War Horse” begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets – British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter – before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land. The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse – an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure,” said an official Dreamworks Pictures release.

Toronto residents, additionally, should keep in mind the Toronto stage production of the “War Horse” which will open in February 2012 at the Princess of Wales Theatre.
