  • City seeks proposals for multimedia studio to kick-start film industry

    The City of Ottawa has issued a ‘request for proposals’ for a multimedia studio just as film and television production in the city seems to have stalled. The studio, to serve film, television and digital productions, is badly needed and comes at a time when the City of Ottawa is serious about developing the industry and competing with other cities for productions. The city also named a new film commissioner earlier this year and rolled the revitalized film office under the Invest Ottawa banner and provided it with more funding than past incarnations of the office.

    The new social media campaign from McDonald’s Canada, “OUR FOOD. YOUR QUESTIONS” lives on McDonald’s playful, interactive website, as well as Facebook and Twitter. It’s sort of an Ask.com for burgers, nuggets and fries. Customers can ask any questions about McDonald’s food, and everything, short of the profane, will be answered. The site even intuits questions and shares what other customers have asked on a similar topic. If you want to know how the Chicken McNuggets are made, or if the chicken is chicken or how the chickens are treated, just ask. The best questions may merit an answer on The McDonalds Channel on YouTube. Questions like this one that Isabel M. asked: “Why does your food in advertising look different than it does in the store?”

    After five years of cutting edge digital post production services, Redlab Digital has announced its recent expansion of operations. The acquisition of Soho’s post-production services, and Alchemy’s design and animation division completes Redlab as a full service picture post-production facility. From Walt Biljan recently colour grading spots for the new U.S. national Geico commercial campaign to the whole team providing full DI services on Resident Evil 5 in 3D, Redlab’s scope is all-encompassing.
