Listening to Andy Hunter and Mark Stevens talk you get the feeling that you are safely in the hands of the perfect blend of Brilliant-Youthful-Energy//Partnering With//Savvy Veteran Technology – aka the result of Soho and Alchemy acquired by Redlab to form FX@redlab AND Redlab Digital.

Andy is one of the key creative executive components coming forward from SOHO and Mark, along with his partners, are the key assets that came forward into the newly formed entity from REDLAB. The newly merged group already have an impressive resume of projects interspersed between short form/commercial and long form/TV – Canada’s biggest homegrown VFX Feature Franchise- “Resident Evil 5”; 8 films shown at TIFF 2012 including the winning entry (tied for) Best Canadian Feature – “BlackBird” - add to this; the latest cinema advertising for Coca-Cola; spots for; Geico and Underarmor and you get the snapshot – success with a bullet!

The 8 person team from RedLab had already made a name for themselves by doing what no one else could – successfully executing and pioneering the A-Z processing of 100% digital files in an era (2006) when tape was still considered the only sane and safe play. Once the RedLab group got together with the team from Soho the shining path they cut was a terrific blend of “speed of execution” meets ”accurate interpretation” all while employing the most complex technical rendering parametres imagineable…

Obviously the tech and applied science improved in the interim but it seems to me that the RE.5 producers certainly benefitted from the combination of the “latest technology” in play and REDLAB at the plate. Clearly, Andy, Mark and partners have formed an enterprise to take notice of; REDLAB is here,.and it is a top flight player in Post and FX.
