Bell Media lets 27 go from MTV Canada

TORONTO– The last Bell Media channel to make the move from the old Masonic Temple to the company’s 299 Queen Street West base is MTV and in the process, the company announced it will eliminate 27 jobs.

A total of 11 full-time and 16 contract jobs, all duplicate production positions, were eliminated with the channel’s move into its new high definition studio on QSW (which houses MuchMusic, Bravo, Space, CP24, The Marilyn Dennis Show, eTalk and other brands).

Back when CTVglobemedia owned the Masonic (which it purchased in 1998), not only MTV operated from there (and before that, when MTV was still “talktv”), it was also the base of the old Open Mike with Mike Bullard Show and TSN’s Off The Record.

No decision has been taken as to what to do with the building, say company officials.
