Toronto Fest Offers Global Filmmakers Short Film Showcase

The prestigious Canadian festival unveiled plans for Short Cuts International, a showcase of short films to launch at the upcoming 2014 edition in September.

The micro film series comes on top of Short Cuts Canada, which already allows Canadian filmmakers to demand less time of fest-goers otherwise drawn to Hollywood and other high profile movie titles screening at the annual September event.

“As TIFF expands its global reach, we want to bring some of the world’s finest short films to the audience, industry and media that gather in Toronto every year,” Toronto artistic director Cameron Bailey said Monday in a statement.

Shane Smith, TIFF’s director of special projects, will get the Short Cuts International program off the ground, with programmers shortly to be announced.

Toronto is accepting short film submissions from this Wednesday and through to May 30.
