World of Warcraft film post-production will take about 20 months to ‘get right’

The movie adaptation of Blizzard’s massively multiplayer online game World of Warcraft, Warcraft, will wrap up later this month, but the movie will take an additional 20 months of post-production in order to “get this right,” Legendary Films CEO Thomas Tull recently told CraveOnline.

Warcraft is currently in production as part of a partnership between Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures; the movie is being directed by Duncan Jones, who also directed sci-fi film Moon. According to Tull, the far-off release is part of getting the movie itself and its launch date “right.”

“As you may have noticed, these next two years, there’s pretty big titles coming out,” Tull said. “We wanted to make sure that we got that right, but there are some sequences and some things that Duncan Jones has done that are truly on the cutting edge. You want to have plenty of time to make sure that we dial those in. So by the time they get home and set up, it’ll be a little less than two years. It’ll be about 20 months but we really want to take our time and get this right because the technology that’s employed really is some next generation stuff.”

Tull added that though the movie will feature a linear story, it’s still a Duncan Jones film and has “that different flare, not just straightforward fantasy.”

Warcraft finishes shooting May 23 and is set to hit theaters March 11, 2016. The cast includes actors such as Ben Foster of 3:10 to Yuma fame and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’s Paula Patton.
