Entertainment One Acquires Trio of Films for Canada
Tuesday May 20th 2014Entertainment One has acquired three movie titles for the Canadian market, including Kung Fu Panda director Mark Osborne’s Little Prince and Somnia, which stars Kate Bosworth and Thomas Jane.
eOne Films Canada plans a Thanksgiving 2016 release for Little Prince, the big screen take on the The Little Prince, the classic French novella by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
The film, acquired from WildBunch, has characters voiced by James Franco, Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges, Benicio Del Toro and Paul Giamatti.
Little Prince is produced by Onyx Films’ Aton Soumache and Dimitri Rassam, and Paramount has the film’s U.S. rights.
eOne’s Canadian film division also acquired the horror pic Somnia from Oculus director Mike Flanagan and sales agent Sierra Affinity.
The Canadian distributor plans an early 2015 theatrical release for Somnia, about an orphaned child, played by Jacob Tremblay, whose dreams and nightmares manifest physically as he sleeps.
Bosworth and Jane will play the child’s parents.
Relativity has the rights for a U.S. release for Somnia, which Demarest Films and MICA Entertainment are financing, with Intrepid Pictures’ Trevor Macy, Demarest’s Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson producing.
Mali Elfman and D. Scott Lumpkin are executive producers.
eOne also acquired from Blumhouse International the Canadian rights to Viral, which stars Sophia Black De’lia and Analeigh Tipton and will be directed by the Catfish team of Henry Joost and Ariel Shulman.
Viral is an IM Global and Blumhouse Productions film, with Jason Blum serving as a producer for Blumhouse, Matt Kaplan for Chapter One Films, and Sherryl Clark for Busted Shark.
Viral is being handled in the U.S. by The Weinstein Company/Dimension.
