ProFusion 2014 – At the Forefront of Imaging Technology

By TO411 Staff Writer
Daisy MacLean

After last year’s record breaking turnout, ProFusion, Canada’s premiere pro imaging tradeshow, has moved into Toronto’s Metro Convention Centre and Vistek VP Kevin Parker promises that 2014 will be the biggest and best yet: ”The new venue is absolutely spectacular. It gives our impressive list of international exhibitors a massive 70,000 square foot showroom to work with. The Sony booth alone, at 2,000 square feet, more than five times the size of last year, is an event in itself.”

ProFusion offers two full days in which pros and enthusiasts alike have a chance to meet the leading manufacturers face-to-face, learn from world-famous professionals, and see first-hand the latest developments in the photo and video world. The tradeshow will host close to 100 exhibitors this year, many of which will introduce ‘first in Canada’ product launches, including the most talked-about cameras, lighting, camera stabilization devices, software and more.

The LaCie booth will be featuring their industry-leading Thunderbolt D2 drives, and even giving one away to a lucky winner! The new LaCie d2 Thunderbolt 2 & USB 3.0 is the only Thunderbolt 2 daisy-chain ready single hard drive product on the market. And for those who love shooting Arri RAW, the new LaCie 5big Thunderbolt 2 RAID packs up to 30TB of capacity with an advanced RAID 5 hardware controller. Not big enough? The high demand LaCie 8big Thunderbolt 2 Rack RAID, holds up to 48TB in a mere 1U size. Delivering speeds of up to 1330MB/s, it is the most powerful plug and play rackmount solution for 4K video editing.

The Photographers Without Borders (PWB) booth is a definite must-see if you’re interested in developing your photographic skills while traveling to distant lands and making the world a better place. PWB has just launched its new publication, Photographers Without Borders Magazine, which presents inspiring and thought-provoking photographic images that address social, economic, environmental and cultural issues across international borders, offering insight into how change happens and how the rest of us can do our part. Plus, if you register for a workshop or enroll in their Global Program, you could win a free flight!

If you’re a gadget freak like me you’ll be interested in Flying Camera’s booth and their love for multi-rotor camera platforms, sometimes referred to as drones, UAVs or quadcopters. The cutting edge of UAV technology offers photographers and filmmakers an entirely new perspective. Want to learn how quadcopters work? What you’ll need to know in order to fly one? And what your options are in terms of accessories? These guys continuously research the best available platforms to ensure you are always flying the most reliable UAVs in the world.

ProFusion also boasts one-of-a-kind product demonstrations and exclusive seminars and workshops featuring keynote speakers Shane Hurlbut A.S.C., and Alister Chapman. Hurlbut, renowned for shooting multimillion-dollar blockbuster films, including Act of Valor, The Rat Pack, Terminator: Salvation, will share many of his experiences and provide a range of helpful shooting tips and tricks, insights about recent production technologies and tools available to today’s filmmakers. Chapman will take an in depth look at the pros and cons of the digital cameras available to filmmakers, with sample footage and film clips from all the cameras. It’s a unique opportunity to network with industry leaders about imaging solutions.

“The primary mission of ProFusion has always been to showcase and celebrate the pro imaging industry in Canada,” continues Parker. “To that end, over two full days, attendees can look forward to witnessing a fusion of the latest technology and the brightest minds in the industry.”
