TIFF announces more titles, including closing-night gala

The Toronto International Film Festival has announced another five galas, including closing-night film Paco Cabezas’s action-romance Mr. Right, starring Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick.

TIFF runs from Sept. 10 to 20.

Also announced were 19 additional Special Presentation titles. Among them, Gaby Dellal’s family drama About Ray, starring Elle Fanning as a teenager transitioning from female to male and Marc Abraham’s Hank Williams biopic, I Saw The Light, starring Tom Hiddleston as the country legend and Elizabeth Olsen as his first wife, Audrey Mae Williams.
TIFF also unveiled its 60-film Contemporary World Cinema program, the films on the City to City slate, focusing on London this year, the Short Cuts program and Wavelengths, featuring 54 films, videos and installations from international artists and filmmakers whose work is showcased for the ways in which it helps redefine cinema.

Among the films announced:

London Fields: directed by Matthew Cullen, United Kingdom/USA: World Premiere

Based on the Martin Amis novel and set in 1999 London, Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, Cara Delevingne, Theo James, Billy Bob Thornton and Jim Sturgess star in this noir crime thriller.

The Meddler: directed by Lorene Scafaria, USA: World Premiere

Susan Sarandon stars as recent widow Marnie Minervini, an eternal optimist who sets out for Los Angeles looking for a new life with her daughter. And maybe a little bit more. Rose Byrne and J.K. Simmons also star.

Truth: directed by James Vanderbilt, USA: World Premiere

Based on the true story of CBS News journalist Dan Rather’s producer Mary Mapes and based on her book Truth and Duty, about breaking the story about how U.S. President Bush used connections to avoid fighting in the Vietnam War and the fallout from making it public. Cate Blanchett, Elisabeth Moss, Robert Redford, Topher Grace, Dennis Quaid and Bruce Greenwood star.
