Conde Nast Entertainment Forms Unscripted TV Production Unit

Conde Nast Entertainment is expanding its reach with the formation of CNE Studios, a new division which will produce unscripted television shows for the company, it was announced Monday. The studio aims to develop and produce projects in film, television and digital video.

“The Amazing Race” and “Who Do You Think You Are?” producer Al Edgington has been tapped to head the new unit, serving as executive VP, reporting to CNE president Dawn Ostroff.

“With the explosive demand for television programming, CNE Studios is the natural progression of taking our success in developing and selling unscripted series to the next level,” Ostroff said in a statement. “Al’s expertise and keen production abilities will be a tremendous asset as he and Joe LaBracio (head of alternative programming) work closely on building the next phase of our unscripted television business.”

“The opportunity to produce such a wide variety of projects, both from Condé Nast as well as outside sources, is an incredibly exciting prospect,” added Edgington.

CNE currently has 24 film projects in development, two of which are slated for release later this year — “Army of One,” starring Nicolas Cage and Russell Brand, and “The First Monday in May.” The company has five unscripted TV series in production and on air, including “Fashion Fund” and “The New Yorker Presents” on Amazon, and “Vanity Fair Confidential” on Investigation Discovery. CNE also has a first-look deal at 20th Century Fox TV for scripted shows, pilots in contention at networks including HBO, Fox and AMC, and a scripted series that recently sold to NBCUniversal’s Seeso.
