Ontario records blockbuster year in film, TV production in 2015

Foreign film and television productions in Ontario helped infuse a record-breaking $1.5 billion into the local economy in 2015.

Numbers released by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport shows foreign spending contributed $763 million to the province’s economy compared to $503 million in 2014.

Although there was a slight dip in domestic film and television production in 2015, $761 million compared to $790 million in 2014, the industry supported nearly 32,500 full-time jobs, an increase of 4,500 from the previous year.

The province says this is the fifth consecutive year that the film and TV production industry contributed more than $1 billion to Ontario’s economy.

Academy Award winning films Room and Spotlight were all filmed in Ontario, including the ongoing hit television series Murdoch Mysteries.
