BANFF, Alta. (CP) _ The Banff World Television Festival says more than $720 million in deals were inked at this year’s event, a five-fold increase over the previous year. The figure includes several large individual deals, according to a survey of nearly 400 delegates who attended the festival in June.
"The primary lead I received at Banff involved potential financing in excess of $50 million for various feature film and movie-of-the-week productions," David J. Alexander, senior vice-president of the sports and entertainment group of GE Commercial Financial, reported in the survey.
Robert Montgomery, the festival’s CEO, says the numbers prove that Banff has become one of the world’s most important television festivals.
"Each year, the who’s-who of key producers, broadcasters and content creators converge on Banff to collaborate, be inspired and do business," he said in a release. "The results of this latest delegate survey are unequivocal evidence that Banff is a vital, viable and important component of the global television industry."
The 27th instalment of the annual festival brought representation from nearly every Canadian and U.S. broadcast network as well as editors and executives from Europe, Asia and South America. Next year’s festival will be held from June 10 to June 13.
