TORONTO (CP) _ Acclaimed British actor Bob Hoskins is joining the cast of the two-part CBC-TV miniseries The Englishman’s Boy, producers announced Tuesday.
The four-hour production is based on the Governor General’s Award-winning novel by Guy Vanderhaeghe, who is adapting it for TV.
Hoskins will play a 1920s movie mogul who engages a Canadian writer (played by Michael Therriault) to track down an elusive actor (Nicholas Campbell). R.H. Thomson and Michael Eisner (in the title role) are also in the cast.
Hoskins won an Oscar nomination for his role in the film Mona Lisa, as well as BAFTA, Cannes Film Festival and Golden Globe awards.
John N. Smith (The Boys of St. Vincent; Prairie Giant: The Tommy Douglas Story) directs The Englishman’s Boy. Filming continues in Saskatchewan until Oct. 12.
