CBC fall schedule to include more ‘Little Mosque,’ a sexy Henry VIII, and soccer

TORONTO (CP) _ CBC-TV unveiled a fall schedule Tuesday that features a little something for every Canadian _ from the history buff to the comedy lover and the soccer fanatic.

One of the highlights of the fall schedule is the acclaimed "The Tudors," starring troubled British actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers as a libidinous young Henry VIII.

Kirstine Layfield, executive director of network programming, says the public broadcaster is delighted to showcase the sexy historical miniseries that has already wowed critics in the U.S.

It was co-produced by the CBC.

The network’s ratings saviour this year _ the situation comedy "Little Mosque on the Prairie" _ will be back with 20 new episodes and fresh writing faces from the CTV hit comedy "Corner Gas." Layfield says the show will be even better this year as writers dig deeper into the show’s colourful cast of characters.

The show, about a group of devout Muslims living in a sleepy prairie town, will be the lead-in for the new reality show "No Opportunity Wasted," from the "Amazing Race’s" Phil Keoghan.

"The Rick Mercer Report," another ratings winner for the CBC, also returns, as does "The Hour." The popular "Test the Nation" will be back with a language edition.

And soccer fans have reason to rejoice: CBC has exclusive coverage of the FIFA U-20 World Cup and the FIFA women’s World Cup.
