Paris and Nicole patch up feud

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are reunited and the producer of "The Simple Life" says it feels so good. After a yearlong public feud that nearly killed the reality show that made them famous, Hilton and Richie have agreed to film a fifth chapter of "The Simple Life" together, executive producer Jon Murray said.

"The thing the viewers love is the two girls together," he said.

"America, Paris and Nicole are going to camp."

The 25-year-old celebutantes will be camp counsellors in the newest "Simple Life" adventure, which is to begin production next month, Murray said. The show will air on E! next spring, he said.

The show will delve into "what led to the breakdown in the friendship and maybe some of the misunderstandings and things that got in the way," he said. At the height of their feud during the last "Simple Life" outing, Hilton and Richie filmed their parts separately. Murray was going to put the two on a "deserted island with a bunch of survivalists" for the next season when they agreed to appear side-by-side in the show.

"They reached out to each other in universal disdain for the island concept," he said, "and rekindled their friendship."

The two went public with their seemingly reconciled relationship Sunday, arriving together at Dan Tana’s Steakhouse in Los Angeles. After dinner, they text-messaged while waiting for their car on a bench in front of the restaurant. At one point, they looked at each other and smiled when an unseen observer said: "I always knew you’d be friends again, Paris."

Paris and Shanna Moakler fight

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Can Travis Barker really have this effect on women? His estranged wife, Shanna Moakler, was involved in a nightclub fracas with Paris Hilton early Wednesday morning.

Barker, the drummer for Blink-182, filed for divorce in August from Moakler, a former beauty queen who was recently voted off "Dancing With the Stars." In September, Barker was apparently videotaped kissing Hilton, who needs no introduction.

Then Hilton encountered Moakler at the Hyde club in Hollywood. The following re-enactment is based on reports by police and publicists for both women but, unfortunately, no pugilistic experts:

Hilton says Moakler walked up to her, "used the most vile of language" and then punched her in her jaw. Moakler contends she exchanged mere profanities with Hilton, at which point Hilton’s ex-boyfriend Stavros Niarchos emerged from the entourage, bent Moakler’s wrists, poured a drink on her and shoved her down some stairs.

Hilton, 25, and Moakler, 31, both filed police reports alleging battery. Officer Karen Smith said police took pictures of Moakler and Hilton at the station, and that police planned to speak with witnesses at the club as part of their investigation.

Moakler and the tattooed punk rocker Barker were an unlikely pair when they married in 2004, documenting their lavish wedding and life on the MTV reality show "Meet the Barkers." They had two children. Moakler also has a 7-year-old daughter with boxer Oscar De La Hoya.

Paris Hilton charged with DUI

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Paris Hilton was charged Tuesday with driving under the influence. Hilton was scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 28 in Superior Court on charges of driving under the influence and driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 per cent, said Nick Velasquez, a spokesman for city prosecutors. Hilton is not required to appear at the arraignment, Velasquez said.

The 25-year-old Hilton was arrested Sept. 7 after being stopped in her Mercedes-Benz SLR. Police said her blood-alcohol level was 0.08 percent, the minimum to warrant an arrest.

"The charges are consistent with California law and the circumstances of this case," Velasquez said.

A telephone message seeking comment from Hilton’s spokesman, Elliot Mintz, was not immediately returned. Mintz said previously it was her only DUI arrest. Paparazzi swarmed the Hollywood police station after Hilton’s arrest. Hours later, Hilton told KIIS-FM’s morning radio host Ryan Seacrest that she was on an early morning hamburger run when she was stopped. The singer, actress, handbag designer and heiress to the Hilton hotel fortune denied driving recklessly but conceded "maybe I was speeding a little bit."

Hilton, who once told the Los Angeles Times that the taste of booze "grosses me out," claimed she had a single margarita at a charity event the evening before her arrest.

A national research study says that a 137-pound woman would need to consume three alcoholic drinks in one hour on an empty stomach to reach a .08 per cent blood-alcohol level. The fashionably slender Hilton likely weighs much less than 137 pounds.

If convicted, Hilton could be sentenced to six months in jail and fined $1,000. The minimum penalty for a first-time offender is a fine, probation and alcohol-rehabilitation program.

Paris Hilton Arrested for DUI

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Paris Hilton was arrested early Thursday for investigation of driving under the influence, police said.

Hilton was arrested shortly before 12:30 a.m. after being pulled over in Hollywood, said police Officer I. Isabella, who declined to give his first name.

Police stopped Hilton because she was "driving erratically," Isabella said, reading a police statement.

"The officers observed that Hilton exhibited the symptoms of intoxication. A field sobriety test was conducted at scene, and the officers determined she was driving under the influence."

Hilton was booked on suspicion of misdemeanour DUI and released, he said. Her spokesman, Elliot Mintz, confirmed the arrest and said police detected the minimum blood-alcohol level to warrant an arrest. The legal limit in California is 0.08 per cent.

"She’s absolutely fine," Mintz said. "She didn’t appear in the least bit to be intoxicated."

At the time of her arrest, Hilton was driving home in her Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren from a charity event where she had one drink, a margarita, he said. She had spent the day shooting a music video for her new album, Paris.

The driving under the influence symptoms were "probably the result of an empty stomach and working all day and being fatigued," Mintz said.

She was picked up from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood station by her sister, Nicky, Nicky’s boyfriend, actor Kevin Connolly, and Mintz.

In June, Hilton had a fender-bender accident when her Range Rover backed into a car in a parking garage after a shopping trip.
