  • Rogers sets up committee for CEO search

    With the death of Ted Rogers, the reins that control Rogers Communications Inc. will for now remain in the hands of Alan Horn who has been serving as acting chief executive officer since the beginning of last month . . . The Toronto company said Tuesday that its board of directors will set up a special committee to lead a search for a successor to Mr. Rogers and that both internal and external candidates will be considered — although the late founder said in a recent autobiography that he would prefer his successor come from within the company.

  • Historic Frost/Nixon interviews released by Vivendi Entertainment

    Vivendi Entertainment announced the release of Frost/Nixon: The Original Watergate Interviews on DVD, a project produced by Sir David Frost and David Paradine Television Inc. The Historic Frost/Nixon interviews were filmed in 1977, following the Watergate scandal. The interviews drew the largest audience ever for a news interview in the history of television.

  • Two Cineplex theatres plan to serve alcohol

    If the blockbuster movie at your local multiplex turns out to be a bomb, you soon will be able to ease your pain. Two local Cineplex Odeon multiplexes are preparing to allow alcohol in their theatres, and it could happen as early as next week. Licensed lounges in the concourse areas of theatres were allowed before, but amendments to the Liquor Licence Act allowing in-theatre drinking only took effect Oct. 23. At this point, no cinema has been approved for the additional capacity, although Cineplex’s application is well underway. The idea is a pilot project that will end Nov. 30, 2009.
