LiveWire keeps busy this season
Monday July 05th 2010LiveWire Remote Recorders was on hand recently to handle the music mix for Canada’s two most popular music awards shows.
On June 20, the company’s mobile provided the 5.1 music mix for the 2010 MuchMusic Video Awards, the highest-rated program in the 26 year history of MuchMusic, with over one million viewers. Hosted by Miley Cyrus, artists like Ke$ha, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Marianas Trench were also mixed out of its mobile.
LiveWire also did the broadcast music mix for the the 2010 Juno Awards in St. John’s Newfoundland for CTV on April 18. Performers mixed by LiveWire included Drake, Metric, Billy Talent, Classified, and Justin Bieber (with Drake sitting in).
The truck sped back to Toronto to record a gospel dvd featuring Grammy Award winners Fred Hammond and Hezekiah Walker at Queensway Cathedral for House of Levi.
The portable system was busy in May recording a cd for the 55 voice Burlington Welsh Male Choir at St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Burlington. The album was mixed at the company’s facility in downtown Toronto for summer release.
LiveWire also took the 32 track portable system to The Historic Red Dog Tavern in Peterborough to record the soundtrack for a live dvd featuring local legends, The Weber Brothers.
Chief engineer Doug McClement was at MTV for five days during May and June, doing the broadcast mix for Born Ruffians, His Orchestra, Athlete, Against Me, and Wintersleep.
NXNE hosted the premiere of Bruce McDonald’s concert movie “This Film is Broken,” which features Broken Social Scene’s concert at Harbourfront last year, recorded by LiveWire. Feist, Amy Millan and Emily Haines are also performed. The review in the Toronto Star commented on the “great sound.” The recording was engineered by Phil Hay.
Songwriter/educator Gregg Lawless hired LiveWire to record two concerts as part of the “Literacy and Values Through Music” program offered by the York Regional and Peel District School Boards. The concerts took place at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre and the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, and involved ten choirs from each school board, backed up by a band of professional musicians.
