BC film industry gets $275,000 boost
Thursday August 04th 2011VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – BC’s film industry is getting a boost from the provincial government.
Cultural Development Minister Ida Chong admits $275,000 isn’t a lot of money but says it should help keep the film industry going.
“The money is going to 12 film commissions throughout the province and this is provide them with some additional dollars to help them do their work,” Chong said. ”It’s all about economic development, so to be able to support a commission that has access to other dollars will help give them a boost.”
The commissions will use the cash to pitch filmmakers and TV producers on making their projects in BC.
BC Film Commissioner Susan Croome appreciates the announcement.
“Since 1978, the BC Film Commission has successfully showcased the province as a motion picture production centre and filming destination,” Croome said. ”Regional commissions and organizations are instrumental in building and promoting B.C.’s inventory of locations.”
There are 25,000 people working in BC’s film industry. Only the Los Angeles and New York TV and film industries outsize ours in North America.
