J.J. Abrams Extends First-Look Deal With Paramount
Thursday March 01st 2012J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production banner have extended their first-look deal with Paramount Pictures through December 2015, the studio announced. Financial terms of the deal are not known.
Abrams’ relationship with Paramount has been a fruitful one since 2006, when he first signed a deal with the studio. Since then, Bad Robot and Paramount have made Mission: Impossible III, Cloverfield, Star Trek, Morning Glory, and Super 8, with Abrams directing several of the titles in addition to Bad Robot producing.
Most recently, Abrams produced last year’s Brad Bird-directed Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which has grossed more than $600 million worldwide.
“J.J. is a unique talent and a captivating storyteller” said Brad Grey, CEO of Paramount Pictures, in a statement. He added that the company’s films “have extraordinary resonance around the world and we’re so pleased Paramount will be their home for years to come.”
Bad Robot is currently shooting the next installment of the studio’s Star Trek franchise, which Abrams is producing. The 3D film will be released May 17, 2013.
