Ottawa film fest starts today
Thursday August 16th 2012The Ottawa International Film Festival starts Thursday, Aug. 16, with a series of screenings at the Empire theatre in the World Exchange Centre (111 Albert).
Through Sunday the festival will bring together local and international independent films, often with a chance to meet the film-makers. For example, The Day (8 p.m. Saturday) is a post-apocalyptic race for survival, and after the screening is a Q & A with Rob Menzies, a producer at Zed Filmworks.
The annual music video challenge – when local bands and film-makers work together on clips to be judged at the festival’s final event – is Sunday at Babylon (317 Bank). The videos will be graded by a panel of judges, including, er, me. Doors open at 6 p.m., videos start at 7:30.
