Global TV First To Offer U.S. Primetime Programming To Canadian Online Viewers

TORONTO, Sept. 19 /CNW/ – Global Television today announced the next phase in its broadband video roll-out, leading with the first-to-market online premiere of a US primetime franchise, and the addition of complete episodes from the network’s Canadian news, drama, comedy and documentary programming slate.

Located at the online hub for Global Television, www.globaltv.com, this free, advertiser-supported offering features the Canadian broadband premiere of the smash Howie Mandel-hosted gamer, ‘Deal or No Deal’, in addition to daily editions of ‘Global National with Kevin Newman’, all new homegrown documentaries from the ‘Global Currents’ library, plus the debut seasons of steamy young-adult drama, ‘Falcon Beach’, and whip-smart comedy, ‘The Jane Show’.

Each of the programs will be available online following their television broadcast, with select episodes archived on a customised menu – giving audiences across Canada increased access and expanded choice in creating their Global Television experience on demand. Users can click the "VIDEO" tab on the www.globaltv.com home page to access the Global broadband player.

"We’re delighted to offer this online first to Global audiences nationwide," said Kathleen Dore, President of Television & Radio for CanWest MediaWorks Inc. "It’s a tremendous opportunity for our team to deliver premium US and Canadian content on this emerging platform, and work with exciting new advertisers and content partners to extend the Global Television brand."

Today’s industry-leading content announcement reflects an ongoing series of Global Television Canadian exclusives in the interactive arena. Last year the network delivered the first national newscast available via podcast, and soon after, set the pace in offering video news content on BlackBerry devices, via bbtv.
