    The Motion Picture Association of America says moviegoers around the world pushed box office revenue to a record $26.7 billion last year. A report released Wednesday says box office revenue outside North America climbed 4.9 percent to $17.1 billion, representing nearly two-thirds of all ticket sales. Revenues in the United States and Canada increased 5.4 percent to a record $9.6 billion.

    Sony is introducing the F35 camera system. It has several new features, many the direct result of feedback from production professionals. The new camera will join the F23 model at the high-end of the company’s CineAlta line of acquisition products for digital television and motion picture content creation.

    The Screen Actors Guild has completed the launch of its year-old iActor online casting directory, which includes nearly 24,000 member resumes. SAG announced Tuesday that the site has been enhanced to allow casting directors and producers to verify an actor’s union eligibility for work in SAG-signatory productions — also known as “Station 12” cast clearance.

    Canada’s film and television industry is screaming censorship over a government plan to cut tax credits for productions with graphic scenes of sex and violence, warning the plan could water down edgy Canadian films. In a last-ditch attempt to dilute a government income tax bill, the film industry says tougher Canadian tax rules could be a death blow to a sector already struggling to cope with a stronger Canadian dollar.
