    The sitcoms are back — and viewers have returned with them. The first scripted productions to resume their broadcast runs since the writers strike ended were rewarded with some of their highest ratings all season.

    The Canadian Society of Cinematographers nominee list for their 2008 awards include nine nominations for six Sesler & Company Directors of Photography, including sweeps in the Commercial and Music Video categories for the second consecutive year. Sesler & Company President Dora Sesler adds, “This is a celebration and recognition of the extraordinary talent working in the Canadian film and television industry, and we are very proud of our clients and their nominations.”

  • HD DVD flop costs Toshiba $1.1 billion

    Toshiba has announced that its losses from dropping the HD DVD biz will hit 110 billion yen ($1.1 billion) for the 2007 fiscal year, more than double its earlier projected loss. On Wednesday Toshiba also said that it has revised its net profit forecast for the year ending March 31 down by 30% to $1.25 billion, with its defeat in the next-generation DVD format war weighing heaviest.

  • Tributes pour in for Oscar-winning filmmaker Minghella

    Tributes poured in Wednesday for Anthony Minghella, the British filmmaker best known for the Oscar-winning 1996 film “The English Patient”, who died at the age of 54. The writer and director, whose other box office hits include “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “Cold Mountain”, was best known for beautifully shot, lyrical adaptations of literary novels starring big names such as Jude Law.
