  • WB, Fox tussle over ‘Watchmen’ rights

    “Watchmen” could find itself in court before it arrives at the multiplex. Warner Bros. is scheduled to release Zack Snyder’s big-screen adaptation of the Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons comics series on March 6, but a federal judge in Los Angeles complicated that plan Wednesday when he refused to dismiss a lawsuit filed by 20th Century Fox against Warners over rights to the property.

    Tensions within the Screen Actors Guild mounted on Monday as the union’s Hollywood-based leaders rejected a call by SAG’s New York branch to bring in a federal mediator to break a deadlock in contract talks with major studios. Members of the New York regional board also publicly challenged the assertions of SAG president Alan Rosenberg and chief negotiator Doug Allen that the union is holding informal talks with studio representatives in a bid to close a deal.

    TIFF will bring back the popular Intl. Financing Forum and Meet With events this year. The fest announced its full slate of industry confab events and daily meets on Monday, with Match Club returning as the hub for all Canadian and international sales, industry and guest relations office delegates. The Intl. Financing Forum (IFF) allows selected international and Canadian producers developing English language projects to rub shoulders in brokered meets and networking opportunities with international sales agents, funders, distributors and execs.
