  • NBC pacing behind in Olympics ad sales

    With fewer than 90 days left before the Olympic torch arrives at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, NBC Universal still has a solid chunk of inventory left to sell. And while the ad marketplace has begun showing signs of life in the past few weeks, the Peacock faces an uphill climb if it is to hit its volume target. Per media agency estimates, NBCU must move 30%-35% of its 2010 Winter Games avails if things are to be wrapped by the time the first athlete points his skis down the jump at Whistler Olympic Park.

  • ‘Flashpoint’ takes top honours at 2009 Gemini Awards celebrating top Canadian TV

    Producers of the cross-border hit “Flashpoint” held it up as an example of what Canadian television is capable of as the slick CTV cop drama took home three Gemini Awards on Saturday, including best drama. Canadians can be less than supportive when it comes to watching homegrown shows on the small screen. But executive producer Bill Mustos said there’s actually a lot to be proud of, and other countries are taking notice.

  • Systems ‘go’ for stop-motion animation

    While the animation industry carefully watches the fate of Disney’s hand-drawn “The Princess and the Frog” to see if traditional toon techniques can compete in a CG-dominated industry, another old-school style — stop-motion animation — has been making a comeback. The international stop-motion community is so small that many of the artists involved in competing 2009 releases have actually worked with one another before.
