    The editors of “The Hurt Locker,” “The Hangover” and “Up” won feature film competitions Sunday at the 60th annual American Cinema Editors Eddie Awards at the Beverly Hilton. “The Hurt Locker” editors, husband-and-wife team Bob Murawski and Chris Innis, earned the trophy for a dramatic film, topping a category that included “Avatar,” “District 9,” “Star Trek” and “Up in the Air.” “It’s a great way to spend Valentine’s Day, to win an award with my wife,” Murawski said onstage, adding with a smile, “she did most of the work.”

  • Shaw makes pitch for Canwest

    Canwest Global Communications Corp. said it had agreed to sell a controlling stake to Shaw Communications Inc. in a deal that would help Canwest’s television business emerge from creditor protection and give the cable company access to a stable of popular television shows such as 24, Glee and House. Under terms of the agreement, Calgary-based Shaw will pick up “a minimum” 20% equity interest and 80% voting interest in a new standalone company. Shaw is also prepared to make cash payments to Canwest creditors.

    Two in three Canadians watched part of Friday’s Olympic opening ceremony, making for record TV ratings according to host broadcaster CTV. The network said Saturday that the 3 1/2-hour show at B.C. Place Stadium drew a record average audience of 13.3 million, erasing the previous record of 10.3 million for the 2002 gold medal hockey game at the Salt Lake City Olympics.
